Complete your rainbow bookshelf!posted 29 May 2012 by Emma Boulton
Back in November last year, Sarah wrote about our policy for printing our books, particularly referencing A Practical Guide to Designing the Invisible and A Practical Guide to Web App Success. She mentioned some of the factors involved in the decision to print or not to print: print run costs, storage and fulfilment, and the intended audience for the title, and that we had to consider each title on a case-by-case basis.
We're thrilled with the positive response we've had to both titles and sales of ebooks have exceeded our expectations. As a result, we've done a U-turn on our initial decision, listened to our customers and decided to print copies of both.
As we promised before, once the printed versions are available we'll make sure we provide customers who have already bought the digital versions with a discount code so they don't end up paying more than the 'digital and paperwork bundle' price.
Several of our titles, including Web App Success, are quite heavy which can make shipping fairly expensive. We knew this wasn't always popular with our customers. Well not any more! We also recently announced our intention to keep stock at warehouses in the USA. As I write this, our books are on board a ship sailing across the pond, and as long as we have no problems at customs we will soon have stock of all our titles in America. This means that on 12 June, when we launch our two latest paperbacks, our overseas customers will benefit from cheaper and faster shipping.
What more could you ask for? Come back on 12 June with your credit card at the ready!
